REC is a spanish POV horror film. Meaning it's filmed in the same style as Diary of the Dead, Cloverfield & The Blair Witch Project. This is one of the best POV films out there, adding terror, gore and intensity all together. The film begins with a reporter and cameraman covering the lives of the city firefighters, when a unique situation arises. The firefighters are called into action to bust down the door of an unknowingly infected apartment resident, and end up quarantined in the building along with the infection.

REC does an excellent job of portraying the sheer panic amongst the trapped residents, and the mood flows perfectly. A wide spectrum of characters add to the depth of the story, as more clues about the infection are uncovered. If you happen to watch the english dubbed version of REC, this mood will be somewhat taken back, as the english voice actors are a little cheesy at first.

The effects aren't anything stupendous, which says a lot about how great this flick is. It's able to be as thrilling of a zombie movie that it is despite some of the sombre effects. Don't lose all hope, there is some excellent gore in this movie, enough to make most say "Ugh!" at the sight of it.

REC is a must see for any horror fan, and a DEFINITE see for any zombie fan. It's not all that well known due to it's native filming in spanish, but subtitles (or even dubbing) makes quick work of that problem. It's one of those movies that would be good without the zombies, and the fact that it is a zombie movie makes it all that much better.
